Welcome to Die Hard week!

Die HardIn celebration of the Thursday release of A Good Day to Die Hard, the new — and, let's be honest, probably shitty — installment in the saga of John McClane, we've decided to declare this "Die Hard Week" here at Cult Spark. After all, the original is an action masterpiece that no amount of lesser sequels can tarnish, and Bruce Willis's beleaguered cop who always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time remains one of film history's most compulsively watchable heroes.

Over the next five or so days, we'll be publishing a bevy of posts that offer a look back at the Die Hard franchise, including an appreciation of each film in the series released thus far (yes, even Live Free …); an induction of a certain fake terrorist/genius thief into our Movie Villain Hall of Fame; a look at the inspirations for and spinoffs of the Die Hard movies; and a few other surprises. We've even recorded an all-Die Hard edition of the Cult Spark Podcast which we'll be releasing into the wild.

So raise a glass to McClane and Al Powell and Hans and Karl and Theo and even fucking Ellis and Thornburg. It's time to salute them, along with all the McClane helpers and heels who followed in their wake. Rouse your neighbors and tell your friends: Die Hard Week is here.
