A peek at that new South Park game

E3 kicked off today in Los Angeles, and it was all Halo … blah, blah … Call of Duty … blah, blah … insert your favorite over-hyped, overdone franchise here. But halfway through Microsoft's Xbox presser, Matt Stone and Trey Parker came out to showcase Obsidian's upcoming South Park RPG The Stick of Truth, which will allow you to create a brand new character who will fight alongside Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman to save everyone's favorite fictional Colorado town from certain doom.

The game is being designed to look exactly like the TV show — to be, in effect, a playable episode of the series. Stone and Parker are writing it themselves to ensure it stays true to the wonderfully depraved spirit of South Park. And the game is structured as an epic RPG that will likely spoof the genre as well as revel in it. The only real warning sign here is that The Stick of Truth is being developed by Obsidian, which is most known for building two glitchy, underwhelming sequels (Knights of the Old Republic II and Fallout: New Vegas) and reportedly laid off a bunch of their staff recently. Still, if this thing ends up being half as good as it is in my head, it'll probably be my 2013 Game of the Year. Here, check out the E3 trailer …
